Short Bio

A self-taught oil painter focused on capturing human emotions.

Statement

Painting hasn’t always been a part of my self-expression. However, as I’ve entered the adult sphere of life, painting has grown into an essential form of expression. I paint because it gives me permission to feel.

My work represents not only what I feel, but what most people feel. Many of the underlying themes of my work include emotions we are disinclined to share in the public space. Sadness, loss, and grief are things we all endure but rarely discuss. Through painting, I am able not only to share what I feel, but give others permission to feel as well.

I find realism to be the most compelling style of painting; I seek to provide an accurate representation of my subjects and their emotions. The Renaissance and Baroque styles are some of my favorites, and I seek to emulate them.

I want people to reflect and connect with my work on a personal level. If you can look at a piece of art and find a bit of yourself in it, it creates an honest connection between the artist and the viewer. I invite people to find some of themselves in me, and permit themselves to feel as I do.

Biography

Sophie Dasko is a young, self taught oil painter primarily based out of Cleveland, Ohio, After high school, Sophie began to explore painting as a medium of expression. After learning the fundamentals of light and color in high school, she expanded her experiences into oil and acrylic painting.

A beginner artist, Sophie’s work has revolved around exploration of different subjects and processes; The “challenge” of a piece is often what inspires the work. Over the past few years she has honed in on human subjects and portraits as her primary focus, and has found a creative purpose in capturing human emotions.

In 2021, Sophie was accepted into the Cleveland Institute of Art, but chose not to attend. Since then, her work has become more refined and personal. She works as a model at BayArts in Bay Village, Ohio, which has helped develop her skills in realistic painting. She views her artistic journey as a new adventure, and looks forward to bringing the feelings of the world around her onto her own canvas.
